Don't Vote For Obama, White People Like Him
NPR informed me today that Hillary Clinton polls better in the black community than Barack Obama.
Now, I don't claim a black person should vote for a black person on race alone. But just like a candidate should expect to carry his own state, a black candidate should be alarmed to learn their support amongst black people is weak.
But here's the part that made Sarah and me punch our pillows and gnash our teeth. Apparently Obama's lack of support in the black community is partially because white people are so enthusiastic about him.
So you put someone up like Alan Keyes, who's certifiably insane regardless of race. But since those crazy tree hugger hippie white yuppies think he's a train wreck, the black community is willing to give him a chance. But when those same crazy urban liberals like a candidate that happens to be black, suspicion abounds.
Wow. Gosh. Damn. So Hillary really will win.

Somehow I don't think Jefferson or Hamilton or Washington for that matter cared that in 1776 most British subjects felt the colonies had no right to draft a Declaration of Independence, that is, if such a poll was actually taken at that time - I'm sure our current King George would loves the poll you mention.
The point is that we shouldn't base our vote on what a poll says about a candidate. We should base our vote on the substance of a candidate's positions in regards to whether or not we believe they will represent our opinion as closely as possible to how we would want our opinion represented in our government. Looking at a candidate's voting record is one way to verify this however a public opinion poll is definitely not.
